iTrust

iTrust Enabling Clean Power

RELP is developing iTrust as a financial mechanism to facilitate programme-based guarantees to renewable energy projects

The iTrust fund catalyses private sector investment in clean energy and climate projects in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs) by providing risk-mitigation guarantees on energy and climate project procurement.

More than just a financial instrument, it is a game-changer in renewable energy investment

iTrust addresses political, financial, and macro risks that have hindered renewable energy deployment in many countries.

By covering off-taker liquidity risk and addressing market volatility risks, we create a conducive environment for scalable private investment, driving down costs and emissions while fostering socio-economic development.

How we do it

The blended finance iTrust fund structure accommodates investments from Host Governments (ensuring the sovereign shows “skin in the game” when the off-taker is a state-owned utility), and multiple donors/investors including MDBs, DFIs, impact investors, official donors, philanthropic organisations and commercial funds, leveraging the special advantages of each.

Key Benefits

iTrust is aimed at mobilising private investment at scale by adding value and providing benefits to all stakeholders involved. Host country governments, project sponsors (IPPs), and financiers benefit from its implementation.
